Brad Pitt meets the Iron Chef: the rising star of Chef Tyler Provines
Julia Child and James Beard were undoubtedly the best-known names in the world of cooking for many years. Child's style was even parodied by Saturday Night Live long before we had heard of Emeril or Wolfgang or Martha.
Celebrity Chef “brands” are now very big business. From restaurants to cooking equipment to frozen foods, best selling books and television shows on the Food, Bravo, Fox and Style Networks, top Chefs command the same attention (and in some cases money) as top Hollywood actors. (Emeril just sold a small part of his empire to Martha Stewart’s company for $50 Million)
Since cooking professionally became a “hot” career a lot of young aspiring talent has surfaced competing for the coveted chef positions at America’s top restaurants. I am fortunate to have come upon one such talent that seems to be head and shoulders (both literally and figuratively) above the others.
Meet Tyler Provines, a 26 year old from the Heartland of America who is best described as Brad Pitt meets Iron Chef. The Kansas native passed on a professional sports career to pursue the culinary arts. Graduating top of his class at Le Cordon Bleu School at Texas Culinary Academy in Austin, Provines (“T-Pro” to friends and colleagues) is a major force on the kitchen team at award-winning Wilshire, a 3 star LA hot-spot catering to the rich and famous and knowledgeable foodies who love California cuisine with Asian accents using only organic ingredients.
Provines’ all-American good looks, boyish charm and 6’ 180 pound muscled physique frequently get him mistaken for an up and coming Hollywood actor, Malibu surfer or professional baseball player but rarely do people think he is a classically trained Chef. (Tyler pictured here with yours truly).
That is beginning to change. T-Pro is in dialog with a major television production company about a cooking show tying his love of sports and fitness with his Heartland background. He is also working on his first cookbook and has been in talks with a New York literary agent about publishing opportunities and has started designing cookware for his future Tyler-Pro branded product line. He has even been approached to do some fashion modeling and sports products’ endorsements.
Most importantly, his cooking is amazing even the simple turning of leftovers into quick easy gourmet meals tempts the palette.
You’ll likely be seeing a lot more of this fast rising brand- star whose politeness and polish seem to reflect a much older, more experienced soul than a mid twenty-something heartthrob. Visit Tyler's website for more information.
Watching out for you everyday.
Eli

I've dined at the Wilshire numerous times. Extremely evident this chef is well trained and experienced in culinary arts. When dinning at the Wilshire, one thing is guaranteed, quality foods prepared to perfection. While the ambience of the Wilshire is one to mention as well, it’s the exquisite food preparation that ensures my continual returns. It’s nice to know who is behind the BEST cooked foods in LA. Seems Chef Tyler is a man of integrity who has a strong future ahead of him. (Quite handsome I must say as well!)
