GE Dishwasher recall 2: Things only get worse-by Eli
Based on my blog report about the GE Dishwasher Recall Update , I have received a great deal of feedback from consumers nationwide who HATE General Electric. Little did I expect that one of American's largest consumer product companies was so disliked...despised...is a better word...by so many Americans.
One incident that was brought to my attention takes the cake.
A woman whose dishwasher actually caught fire....the reason behind the recall...found GE completely unresponsive to her plight even after her kitchen, the dishwasher and the contents of her dishwasher were damaged by the fire and the fire department was called in to deal with the emergency. GE customer service took her on a merry go-round for days looking for every way to have her get so tired of trying to get help she would go away.
In the end all GE offered was to replace her dishwasher with the cheapest model they make and NOT pay for any of the other damage.
She will likely sue GE for much more money and notify the media of GE's behavior and response...maybe a little negative exposure on the Today Show or other major media outlet will get GE's attention. Oh, not the Today Show. NBC is owned by GE and they wouldn't consider reporting anything this negative about their parent company. Go Good Morning America, I suggest, they would love to bury GE.
GE's behavior is simply outrageous. In my own condo building where 150 dishwashers were affected by recall, 100% of homeowners have had problems with the recall process. Everything from incorrect parts delivered for the repairs to no-show or very late repair people. Nothing about this recall process has been handled well.
As I said in my first post on this subject, GE is incompetent and cares little about their customers. Buy another brand when YOU need to replace your GE appliance. That's my advice.
Watching out for you everyday.
Eli

I made the mistake of buying a GE Monogram in 2003 -- top of the line pretty pricey, what a mistake. The thing has never cleaned the dishes, I had to have it repaired 18 months after we bought it and it's broken again, wish I'd known GE's poor reputation before I plunked down all this money.

just want to comment on GE recall. after learning how much it would cost us to buy the new replacement we opted for the free fix on the GE Profile. repairman said it was the worst he'd seen. AND warned us NOT to use the rinse aid. THEY FIXED the wiring but the fix does NOTHING for the leak that caused the problem to begin with. I find that irresponsible.

It's worth noting that GE has excluded the cheapest GE Profile models from the $300 rebate. So if I want to replace my Profile model with another, it's going to cost me $400 for a $700 model. Everyone who goes for the deal is going to end up putting out several hundred at least.
And to think this recalled dishwasher was itself a replacement for an earlier recalled one, in 2001 or so. Then, GE was accused of shoehorning consumers into a new purchase when the old machines could have been easily fixed to avoid the safety hazard.
